Aloha Third Grade Families,

Welcome to B5! My name is Mrs. Allison Lutzke and I am honored to be your child’s Grade 3 teacher! I have lived in Hawaii for most of my life. I am married and have a 12 year-old daughter in the Seventh Grade.

Third grade is bridge year between lower and upper elementary. Students are more independent, and developmental aspects of learning become less of a factor than they had been in grades K-2.  Students will experience many new things this year.  This is the year that students transition from learning to read to reading to learn.  Students will learn how to develop and utilize AVID WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading) strategies to maximize learning potential.  They learn new math concepts such as multiplication and division while diving deeper into concepts such as fractions.  It is also the first year that they will participate in statewide testing.  In preparation, learning will transition toward learning (grade level appropriate) proficient computer skills.  I am so excited to be the teacher that gets to be a part of this learning journey with the students!

A strong school-family partnership with open communication is key to maximizing student success.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me using the contact information included in the welcome letter sent home on August 7, 2018. Clicking the envelope icon next to "Send email" will direct you to the email account I check most frequently.

I look forward to a great year together!

Mahalo,

Mrs. Lutzke :)
